Counseling with Me

I love working with anyone who wants to gain a better understanding of themselves. Let’s explore the different parts that make you, you!

I have extensive experience providing therapy to individuals from a wide range of racial, ethnic, and neurodiverse backgrounds as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community. My work is grounded in cultural humility, acknowledging each client’s unique lived experience, and the systemic factors that shape it. I strive to create an affirming, safe, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their identities, navigate challenges, and build on their strengths.

By integrating culturally responsive approaches and continually learning from the diverse people I serve, I aim to ensure that every client feels seen, respected, and empowered throughout the therapeutic process.

Education

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Antioch University Seattle and a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology with a minor in Asian Studies from the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Virginia. I have professional memberships through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC) and the American Counseling Association (ACA). These organizations ensure members go above and beyond continuing education requirements for state licensure.

My Therapy Background

My years working in community mental health have taught me the importance of flexibility, collaboration, and deep empathy in meeting clients where they're at in life. I learned how to navigate complex systems, advocate for clients with limited resources, and provide effective support amid crises and high-needs situations.

This experience strengthened my clinical judgment, enhanced my ability to work within multidisciplinary teams, and reinforced my value of culturally responsive care. Most importantly, it showed me how meaningful and transformative accessible mental health services can be for individuals, their families, and the broader community.

Working in an alternative school for children with mental health issues and developmental disabilities taught me the power of patience, creativity, and individualized support. I gained a deeper understanding of how emotional and behavioral challenges are often expressions of unmet needs, and how tailored interventions can help students build regulation, confidence, and new skills.

Collaborating closely with student, teachers, families, and support staff strengthened my desire to create consistent structures and trauma-informed environments. Above all, this experience reinforced my belief that every child- and every adult - thrives when they feel safe, understood, and supported with compassion.

My Specialties

Autism + ADHD + AuDHD

I chose to provide neurodiverse-affirming therapy for two reasons.

1) Because throughout my experience as a counselor, these are the clients who have said they benefited from working with me most often. They vibe with me and I vibe with them.

2) Because I'm a part of this community myself. I understand how it feels to talk to someone who doesn't really get you because their brain doesn't work in the same ways.

Don't get me wrong, there are great clinicians out there who are neurotypical and I don't believe in claiming neurodiverse status as a shortcut to building good rapport or providing good treatment. But sometimes you just want to talk to someone who has a little more of that lived experience when it comes to understanding the struggles of navigating a world designed for neurotypical folks.

Autism, ADHD, and AuDHD have been highly talked about on social media, the news, and general politics for the past few years with no sign of slowing down. Geek Therapy

I live at the intersection of neurodiversity, gaming + gambling, and therapy. For me, it just made sense to incorporate those into therapy where appropriate. I’ve found that so many of the clients who like working with me partially like it because I -get- them on a different level than most people in the helping professions. Even if I don’t know your specific affinity, I’m in the culture enough that I can most likely still help you utilize it in your healing process.

In true millennial fashion, I’ve been playing games my whole life. Some notable games of my childhood were crash bandicoot 2, Pokémon Crystal, and Mario Kart Double Dash. Baldur’s Gate II transitioned me into playing more “adult” games, and I would later become interested in World of Warcraft, Halo 3, and BioShock. I resisted Minecraft for a year or so, thinking it was for babies, but finally got hooked after some peer pressure and haven’t truly stopped playing since. Today, I frequent Dota 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, and R.E.P.O. with friends as well as Elder Scrolls Online, Planet Zoo, Slime Rancher, and too many more to mention here when I’m on my own. (See My Game Library for games I recommend as therapy-adjacent.)

All of the above is to say: I get geeky nerd culture and if that’s you, we’ll probably get along well. As a wholistic counselor, I want our work to make sense for as many aspects of your life as possible.  Your affinities are strengths, so lets bring them into the therapy space!

Gambling + Gaming Addiction

Problematic gambling and gaming lead to high distress in nearly all spheres of someone's life. There can be many different types of financial, legal, and interpersonal complications as a result of continuing to engage in these behaviors.

In the mental health world when we start talking about anything with the word "addiction" tied to it, the structure of treatment starts to look a little different. However, with me it doesn't have to look -that- different.

I want to sit with you and discover the meaning behind the urges you may be experiencing. I want to help you feel like you're in control of yourself again. To get there, it may require a little more structure than your typical talk-therapy.

However, this type of therapy does not require you to be religious/spiritual, and I will never force you to go through any kind of 12 step program. You get to decide what supports you will use.

I live at the intersection of both gambling addiction and gaming addiction. For as long as I can remember, games have been my main hobby and outlet. Whether that has been dungeons and dragons at a friend's house or video games online, I have seen the rapid rise of gambling infiltrating the gaming sphere to the point where they are now inseparable. Loot boxes, "gacha" games, sports betting, and selling predictions are abundant and, for some, they are intensely harmful.

These perspectives will always be present in our work together

Person-Centered

I work from the belief that the client is the expert on their own life. I provide therapy that is free from judgement and full of unconditional positive regard. I view therapy as a collaborative process rather than an expert-centered relationship.

Anti-Racist

I work to oppose racism and promote equality, equity, and fairness as I am best able. I strive to be aware and educated on the impact of oppression on different peoples and how those experiences may impact their mental health.

LGBTQ+ Affirming

I work from a positive view of gender-diverse people's identities and relationships. I do not ignore the impacts of marginalization, discrimination, and oppression of teh queer community. I will encourage, validate, and defend people's right to be, and express, themselves how they wish.

Culturally Sensitive

I aim to be aware and respecting of an individual's cultures. Culture is an important aspect of counseling as it shapes perspectives, beliefs, values, and behaviors. I may highlight these aspects in therapy as appropriate.

Strengths-Based

I will focus on identifying and building upon a client's existing positive attributes, skills, and resources. I aim to promote resilience and empowerment. Much of mental health treatment focuses on pathology, I prefer to focus on strengths.

Constructivist

I believe that everyone actively creates their own realities through their unique beliefs and experiences. Through this lens, my goal is to help clients find new meaning and develop healthier narratives about their struggles.
