Geek Therapy

Using the media you love to explore identity, values, and life

What is Geek Therapy?

What I mean by geek therapy:

We’re talking about your life and experiences through the medium of whatever you have an affinity for. That could be video games, anime, cosplay - and beyond!

In therapy, we can utilize games, media artifacts, and geek community aspects for context and therapeutic intervention.

Let me be clear: I won't push us to use something you don't want to use in therapy. You may be an avid video gamer but wouldn't want to play games during therapy. You might love anime but see it purely as an entertainment medium. That's totally fine. Therapy is about more than the label we give it - the goal is healing, and I'm dedicated to your personal goals. We can use your interests as much or as little as you'd like.

The Benefits of Geek Therapy

  • Better engagement with therapy
  • Highly experiential
  • In-vivo behavioral feedback
  • Deeply aligned with client values

What will we use in Geek Therapy?

We could utilize:

  • Video games
  • Tabletop games
  • Comics
  • Anime

And more!

Gamifying Therapy

We might use games during therapy! Whether that means using elements of games (creating achievements, setting challenges) or actually playing through something together, it's all on the table, in a manner of speaking.

  • Build social community
  • Practice skills
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Find deeper meanings
  • Increase self-esteem
  • Build a sense of empowerment
  • Heal from trauma
